First test car appearance on track, white and ugly

We have no idea where these spy shots came from, but we were tipped by Tim over at Camaro5. Apparently what you see here are the first shots of the Subaru/Toyota rear-wheel-drive coupe that is due out on the market by 2011. From what we see in the pictures, there will be a little hint of the Subaru Legacy.

Power will come from a 2.0 liter boxer engine that produces 220-hp and will be mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. Engineers are modifying Subaru’s 4WD platform to create a new rear-wheel-drive architecture.

Pricing is expected to be under $20,000.

I did a quick chop of the test mule and FT-86 matched by wheel position. The subaru test mule is a bit bigger. But other than that, they are very similar. green line shows FT-86 curb contour. The blue lines show the door/window lines which are 100% identical on both cars. The seat position is the same (of course it could be adjusted and matched by occasion) The driver profile from test mule very nicely fits in the FT-86 car (in test car there is so much more unnecessary room above head). The wheel arches are identical in form.
The test vehicle must be definitely be used for chassis tuning/testing, since aerodynamically the cars are very different.
